cheque fraud

that would suggest then it is an actual cheque withdrawal that has been made.
not sure what the branch are playing at. they cannot 'find' the cheque as they cant possibly have issued it - it will have been issued by abbey isa dept.
can your mum speak any english? even enough to get through security is sufficient then can deal with you?
if not, then branch will have to take it up but all they will do is contact isa dept on your behalf and pass on the info. so why they asked you to come back at a specific time i dont know as i find it hard to believe that they can be certain they will get through quickly (given the end/start of tax year period we are in) at a specific time on a wednesday morning??
are you sure there is no reference number on the statement next to the transation as there should be. (not trying to suggest you didnt look properly just find it unusual)
if branch are still not much help, writing to isa dept may be more beneficial - and possibly i suspect easier to do right now given the length of queues to speak to someone at isas because of new tax year. (address should be on the statement - abbey house in glasgow)
