i informed the council that my CTC went up when my son was born, it took them seven weeks to reassess my claim. it caused an overpayment of 200 quid on my account i have to pay that back, they wanted to take £15 /week off my benefit. i called them and said i couldnt afford it, etc. it was reduced to £10 / week. although the guy in the office seemed really friendly, he basically told me they would accept any amount i offered...
same thing goes for council tax... its payable across 10 months... tell them it puts you in hardship and they will recalculate the payments over 12 months...(same goes for water board etc too...)
any payment can be stretched over 12 months/extended etc...0
