cheapest way to St Lucia ?
horizon
I'm planning on going to the Cricket World Cup in 2007.
All Englands games are in St Lucia.
My Questions
Whats the cheapest way by Aircraft to get there ?
Are there any schemes/ clubs/ cards/ rewards I could/should collecting to make it even cheaper ?
Plenty of time to get your answers in !!
Thanks

Any other time I would say yes you would find a bargain or a late deal but not during the world cup.
When England played in Barbados last year flights where hitting 1200+
Even Liat inter island ticket where fetching a small fortune.
The only way to do it reasonable cheaply is to take a flight aleast a week before and dont plan on coming back till a good few days after its finishedIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
I'm planning on doing the same myself but am undecided whether to go it alone or with an organised tour.
The BarmyArmy will no doubt be running a tour with various options which, if previous tours are anything to go by, will include air travel, transfers, accommodation, match tickets and transfers from hotels to the ground. They do, however, charge a lot more than normal tour operators and the cost of independent travel.
I've also looked at staying in Barbados and flying over for two or three games but as prices, and dates of matches, aren't yet available i can't reccomend anything.
I've heard rumours that the St Lucian authorities are going to use cruise liners as hotels, berthed just offshore. Not sure if its true or not but with 30k England cricket fans expected (+ whoever we get in our group) accommodation is going to be at a premium.
To give you an example: Barbados has approx 22k beds on the island and St Lucia has approx 10k. Barbados is the most tourism orientated island in the Caribbean yet the ICC deem it necessary to play us on an island with less accommodation.
Which is probably why Barbados has the supersixes, semis and final.
Actually, this could be a quest for Travelman (if he can) to see what he can come up with.Vedra Nativa0 -
There will be 4 of us going out there too I will be booking asap when the flights are issued with is usualy 11mths before.
Get onto as many airline newsletters as you can who fly the route so you know when they are out.
The ICC site made me giggle last night saying the ground in Grenada needed slight renovation.
We where there in Jan and there was nothing left of it.
I was hoping for BarbadosIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Just checked the ICC web site and we've got New Zealand, Kenya & whoever finishes 3rd in the ICC Trophy. Fixtures will be announced just after the completion of the ICC Trophy in mid-July.
Looks like i'm going to be checking t'internet every five minutes when i'm in Canada/USA last two weeks of July.Vedra Nativa0 -
Newmont Travel specialises in low cost Caribbean Travel, even though it doesn't allow you to book or 2007, you can get a rough idea of what it cost this year. I've managed to get better prices than with the actual airlines websites.0

Thanks for all the info so far.
I've already told the boss I want 4-6 weeks off in April / May 2007, so he has plenty of notice and time to get cover !
Looks like it could cost rather a lot.
But sod it we've always wanted to go to the caribbean, and I've always wanted to watch a world cup.
The missus will probably stay by the pool while I'm at the matches.
keep those ideas and suggestions coming.0 -
Hi
Thought I'd resurect this post !
Time has moved on, and the barmy army have come up with a few options, for different tours, matches, schedules etc.
I have asked for specific details of the Island hopping cruise.
Which they think will tour the caribbean for a month, visiting the islands playing hosts to Englands' super 8 games, the semi finals and final.
They are quoting approx £2800 for 14 nights
What do you think ?
Anyone booked anything yet ?0
