Hi all
I'm contemplating buying an Acer laptop. However, whilst I have heard that their quality is good, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
Just want to guage opinion on what other forum members experiences are with Acer laptops.
Many thanks!

I have one and it has been fine (2 years old) but I've never had to deal with Customer Services.0

Acer and customer service when used in the same sentence is a nonsense.
From a certain standpoint any issues arising are the problem of the retailer who sells them, but all they can do is send it back to Acer for repair, with the same issue of service level a private individual is likely to suffer.
At least with a standard PC most PC shops could repair them, with a laptop the parts are very specific and expensive, with the exception of memory modules (in most cases) and 2.5" hard drives.0 -
im sure you all know my views on acer and the so called customer service, ive had a running battle with them which is only just coming to an end, a waste of my time and money.0

Well, so far it looks like the pro-Acer camp is losing...
In light of the comments, which company is the most reliable for laptops?
I'd rather avoid PC world/Dixons/Currys if at all possible! :-)
thanks to all!0 -
I bought an acer laptop in November 2004 so that my wife could see me more rather than me being under the stairs for hours on end. Its been great and well worth the money, no probs, just upgraded the memory seems very reliable and a good price... Still don`t talk to the missus much!!Good luck everyone with your money saving0

Well, I have an Acer Aspire and it's been an uphill struggle. Firstly, the DVD writer is an utter pile of crap. So slow - it doesn't read plus DVD's and it isn't possible to 'flash' it so I can't share my boyfriend's data (unless he has used a plus disk).
The laptop has been back for repair twice in a year; the case clips were misaligned and snapped off, the fan was improperly installed, and the motherboard got fried as a result. Had had problems over the case clips, so my boyfriend put a dot on the fan with UV pen. We sent it back to Acer who sent it back 4 MONTHS (yes 4 MONTHS) later saying they'd replaced the fan and tested the laptop. Firstly, the laptop's battery was flat. Not possible if you've had it switched on and testing, as it would have been charging. Secondly, we ran a UV lamp over the fan. It hadn't been replaced. The laptop wouldn't even go into windows!
Acer apologised for the 'mixup' (ie, lying) and promised to fix it and send me out a 'gift'. Well, they fixed it, badly (it makes a botheringly loud whirring noise now) and no gift. And I've been hung up on countless times, so I can't be bothered to chase it any more.
AVOID Acer imo. If everything goes well, fine, but as soon as you encounter a problem they expect you to chase them around and remind them of their job. Terrible customer service indeed.
In my opinion; Panasonic laptops are quite reliable and you can pick them up reasnobly cheap on the high street.0
