I am really angry & upset about this It all started in Jan when I saw an advert for some lovely bedding in a news paper. It was just what I was looking for. I phoned to order the items, but as I do not have a debit or credit card they told me to order the items by post, enclosing my cheque in payment, so I posted my order & cheque for 69.50 full payment for the goods. About three weeks later I recieved, part of my order worth 9.99. I rang the company & was told that the goods I had ordered were now out of stock. I asked for a refund of the balence, 59.51 & was told that this would be credited to my account. I said that I did not have an account & that I had sent the cheque as full payment for goods ordered that I had not recieved. I was told that I would need to prove I had paid them this money by sending in a Bank Statement highlighting the cheque. I did this. They sent a letter saying they wanted photocopies of the cheque, I sent them this!!
1 mth later & no answer & no money!!! they have now had my money 4 mths despite numerous phone calls & 3 letters.
Now they are chasing me for 9.99 + 3.50PP + Interest & rang me demanding I pay. Angry....Yes, have now written threatening court action if they do not refund my money & am at my wits end. I am in a wheelchair & on benefits I can not afford to write this money off, I saved hard so I could have something nice. Any one any ideas as to what else I can do. Ringing is useless as they just pass the buck then cut you off, plus it costs me!!!! :eek:

You have the patience of a Saint!Did you send the letter recorded delivery,in case they say they didnt receive it?
I notice they have a section called "ask the expert" with an interior design adviser you can email.You could contact them too.Might make something happen,Hopefully someone will come along soon who can give you the address of the right person to write to if you get no response.good luck.This is also the sort of story that local radio stations love,have you thought about approaching one?0 -
Give BBC watchdog a call, I'll bet they would love to chase them up for you.0

Thanx to both of you may give these ideas a try if threat of court action does not produce results. It just makes me mad that a large company like this does not respond when you send letters & phone asking for help. I have done what they asked & provided proof which has cost me more money!!!:beer: IF YOU CARN'T BEAT EM JOIN EM:j0

I went to the c.a.b once and they gave me a pack with templates of letters to write in legal terms ie reply within 7 days or else etc.0 -
Thanx nearest CAB is twenty miles away & they are always busy, I struggle to go anywhere, I have given them 14 days, Generous!!! plus yet another Bank statement so hope they take notice. Problem is I can not afford to take court action or I would!:beer: IF YOU CARN'T BEAT EM JOIN EM:j0

I believe some cabs have advisers who will come to you in your own home, under circumstances where you find it hard to get out,i know my local one does.Often the hardest thing is getting through on the phone lines-you could give it a try though.0

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ These people should help. If not try good old Trading Standards :j | had a similar problem with a cheque and a mail order company not sending goods or refunds and TS sorted it out double quick and all by email and phone!

When you get a refund from MW they should also refund at least the cost of obtaining the copy of the cheque (£5?) and postage as it is their fault that you have had this extra expenditure.0

Thanx Purple duck this info was very useful, checked out the shortcuts to these web sites & it appears that they should have refunded my money within 30 days!! Its not my fault they can not trace payment, I have proved they cashed the cheque for 69.50. soooooo hopefully I will hear something soon, if not I will most definately be using these sites.
