My floor are concrete and the fitter I foud said that he would use glue to fit it. Is this the best way to go? Or can they nail the grippers down?

You can use grippers on concrete. The carpet fitter should know best if he's any good though, but I prefer grippers.
That said, are you having underlay underneath? As grippers without underlay wouldn't be right (would leave the carpet bumping up over the gripper and not stretched correctly) as far as I'm aware, although I'm just a female D.I.Y er so somebody may prove me wrong,I can't see how though! If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Gripper rods are for hessian backed carpets and require underlay. Foam backed is normally glued.

Blimey,cord effect AND foam backed...*shudders*
I thought they'd done away with the foam backed carpets,I remember my parents had them when I was a kid and I used to lift them back, scoop all the ' dust' they leave up and turn it into magic dust or mix it to a paste with water for make up for my sistersister
If I recall, they need good stretching? If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I have underlay (cumulus 9)and regular carpet. I guess it is hessian backed. My main concern is that it will lift if only glued down. Where I have seen them put down the carpet they seemed to be cutting the underlay so that they left a gap around the edges so so as to glue the carpet down.0

That would puzzle me tbh.How big a gap?If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I've never heard of this myself, seems a little strange actually.
You can get gripper rods for concrete. You just need the ones with masonry nails, and bang them in good and hard.
Not using it, and going for glue seems a cost saving shortcut IMO.
Not only that, if they've not stretched it enough you can get creases/folds appear, and being glued down there's little you can do about it. At least with the grippers, they could come back, use a knee kicker and stretch it again.
I, personally, would challenge them and insist that grippers were used.0 -
