Worm? Please help me get rid!

Options
Just tried to send email to OH at work and keep getting Delivery Failed Notice. There is an attachment on the email which I didn't put there (well, not intentionally, anyway!) Name: ATT00183.dat Type: DAT file
Am I right in thinking this is a worm, and if so, how do I get rid of it - words of one syllable for a technical thickie, please! I have Vista and McAfee security.

I doubt it is a worm.

It is far more likely that

    a) you mistyped the email address (double and treble-check what it should be, and what you typed)

    b) you are using Outlook Express as your email software, and your OH's work email system cannot interpret what you sent. Try re-sending as plain text, rather than RTF or HTML

The attachment contains the parts of the email that could not be understood by the receiving system (i.e. the code that describes what colours and pictures and fonts to use when displaying the text)

    I forgot to add...

Assuming that you are using Outlook Express, go to Tools > Options > Send, and choose Plain Text under Mail Sending Format

Thank you very much! Re-sent as plain text and that seems to have done the trick! Do I need to change that setting back, or is it OK for all emails now?

Plain text will work for all emails. However you could change the default sending format back to HTML and then set plain text for specific email addresses. To do this, in OE click Address Book, double-click an email address, then Name tab and tick 'Send email using plain text only'.
