Can't call out on landline, except when we dial 1280

Hi,
I don't know if anyone out there would be able to help with our problem.
We have a contract with orange for landline, phone line and broadband.
2 weeks ago we found that we couldn't call out. We can receive calls and use broadband, but everytime we put a number in the phone, to call out it says "this service is not available".
Bt engineer asked could we call out if we put 1280 in front of the number we were calling, we tried and said yes. The only problem with doing that is that bt will then charge us for our calls.
Orange keep saying its down to bt and bt are saying its orange, getting a bit frustrated, so does anyone else have any ideas please?

Id be contacting via letter to the ceo/head honcho at orange to get it sorted.

By using 1280 you're by passing the orange network and calling out directly onto the bt line. Sounds like orange haven't ported over the service correctly. Orange are your provider, so its oranges problem regardless. They need to sort it out for you because they're the ones providing the service.

And if Orange can't provide the service you're paying for, I'd insist on a pro rata refund of subscription fees...
