How to get care assistant job in a hospital with no qualification or experience.

I'm a support worker and hadn't done the job before doing it. I think the main thing is to write down any experience that you have had caring for family members and the like. The other thing I would recommend is possibly e-mailing some of the other companies that have been advertising on the job centre in the past month or so as there can be a huge turnaround of staff sometimes and if you apply on spec you might have a good chance of getting a post. I think most care posts are mainly morning/evening/weekend orientated. But for working in a hospital also keep an eye out for agencies and I know around here the agencies seem to advertise more for the hospitals than the hospitals themselves as they can pick up more people when needed to.
To check how both of you working would impact money http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=entitled%20to&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CDwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.turn2us.org.uk%2Fbenefits_search.aspx&ei=kP3lUJHaM-Sd0QXhroC4Dg&usg=AFQjCNHQq4I2IY0qrYivIFE_BT2yzJuV9w&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.d2k:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Evenings and weekends it is then. Plays havoc with the social life but might be necessary to get a bit of experience under his belt, if it's a field he really wants to get into.
Or would that affect the tax credits etc a bit too much with the uncertainty? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

We thought evenings and weekends anyway with whatever job he went for but i guess we need to look at the financial side of things and see how it would work out.
It would save on any childcare so i guess it wouldnt matter too much as long as he got full time hours.0 -
He should start calling local care homes and agencies. Emails quite often just get dumped by spam filters.0

Have you considered your local NHS staff bank. Obviously can't speak for all staff banks but many recruit care assistants on a casual basis including people without experience. Rather than contacting care homes nearby look for the larger groups to see who is recruiting and where the jobs are, as stated before you could always go in on a different job then convert over when an opening appears
Our staff bank workers would need experience unless they have training first? (thats prob a stupid question isn't it lol)
I started out in home care, lots don't ask for experience and will allow you to gain NVQ qualifications. It is getting harder to get care jobs now though. The last two homes I worked for also didn't need experience.0 -
Sorry to drag up BUPA again, I don't work for them honestly but I just looked on their website and there is a role search option that lets you search for jobs that don't need qualifications or experience.
I know that doesn't mean there will be anything for your husband but here's the link anyway:

If someone with no GCSE's or other formal qualifications wants to get into care work and also has no experience or specific care courses what can they do?
My husband hasn't had any work for 2 years and has been a stay at home husband for the past 20 months while i work.
He has an SIA License and has been a cleaning supervisor in his last job but would like to try something different as no jobs seem to come up in these roles and when he does apply hears nothing.
To get a job in care, especially in hospitals you need to be experienced and have NVQ qualifications but he doesnt have any of these. I would assume the people who have these jobs must have somehow got it BEFORE they did their NVQ? but there just isn't any chances of training these days you HAVE to been qualified and have experience.
I cant afford to fund these courses at college as they are expensive so not sure how to go about this?
I know our local hospital takes volunteers, if he did this on the wards would this be enough to get a foot in the door?
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
My sister was in a very similar situation ie no GCSE's, no experience etc.
Whilst I think the NHS may have more stringent citeria (ie NVQ's etc) due to the numbers of applicants they have, my sister managed to get a job with a private care company who deal with care homes and send carers to aid people in their own homes. They are putting her through her NVQ's - although if she leaves within a certain period she has to pay a percentage toward the training.
What I am trying to say is cast the net a little wider - it may not be where your husband wants to begin, but it would mean that he is getting the NVQ's and experience needed to get to where he wants.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
someone already posted re bupa, but other care home groups available too. don't know where you live but try following:
http://www.caringhomes.org/working-for-us/
http://www.barchester.com/
http://www.hc-one.co.uk/careers/vacancies/
the above are only 3 potential groups, there are many others out there.
My own daughter left school last year and got a job as an nhs bank domestic and she has no experience, but now she's got a foot in the door she can look at internal positions both in the domestic field and other fields as available. For her it was all about timing, applying when the position was available as I know my local nhs staff bank don't keep records unless there is a position available.0 -
The NHS trust I work for regularly advertises for Apprentice Clinical Support Workers (apprentices aren't all 16 these days
) and these are paid at band 1 levels while they train, but this is effectively the same as the bottom of band 2, which is the normal starting wage for a CSW. I think it's getting fairly common these days, have a look on https://www.jobs.nhs.uk for apprenticeships

Commom? Never seen one in the areas I've looked at. Most positions are band 2, I hate that I cant find band 3 either. My trust does an Advanced Apprentice NVQ thing for current staff.
There is currently one on whole site based in Manchester, unless you want to do business or grounds keeping, 3 in total.0
