I would like a new laptop but I cannot find any with higher screen sizes. They are all in what I call 'letterbox' sizes. This means more scrolling down to see a full page of anything!
My current laptop has the perfect screen size of width 17.3 x height 22.7cm. But it is now showing its age.
Does anyone have any advice please.

Pretty much All laptops now have widescreen (16:9 or 16:10) aspect ratios. Your (old) laptop has the old 4:3 aspect ratio.
You get used to it. An alternative (for when you're at home at a desk) is to connect a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor as an extended desktop.0 -
Does this help?0

Thanks for that. Its a shame but I guess I will have to make the change.0

Hi,
if you press F11, takes away top and bottom border, you get full screen, can give you an extra couple inches.0 -
Thanks thats a useful tip which i should have known, lol.0

You can get 17" laptops, or higher resolution ones (they are still physically the same size as standard but items can be displayed smaller).
The alternative is not to buy a new one.0 -
I wonder if its possible to upgrade my old machine with new organs!0

What do you use it for? And what model is it?
There's unlikely to be much you can do other than perhaps increase the amount of RAM. But you could backup your data, wipe the disk and reinstall the operating system and required software - that'll likely give a noticeable performance boost over what you're currently used to.0 -
Thanks tanglefoot. That article was very interesting and its feedback shows that Im not alone.....0

Depending upon the model it may be possible to upgrade the CPU (I've just done that for one - going from a 1.8 Celeron to a 2.0 Core2Duo).0
