Fitted bathroom furniture - Mereway or Shades?

Mereway and Shades are the only 2 companies that do the correct sizes of bathroom units we need.

It's much and such between the 2 price wise although Shades is coming in slightly dearer, but I can't find anyone who sells them near me so I can't see the quality. Anyone got either of these 2 ranges and can comment on quality please?

  • We went back to the people that did our kitchen.
They made the cupboards the size we needed for less than the price of the bathroom company's ones.

It's good that you know of both makes ozskin, the last person to recommend Mereway only sold Mereway so not exactly unbiased, lol.

    Thanks.

Is Mereway furniture able to be bought direct from the manufacturer (to help save a few quid) or does it have to be bought through a retailer?

no from retailers only mereway will not deal with you direct. as it is all custom made and rigid its not an order and take back product and benefits from some experience. although it can be delivered direct to site in certain instances, if you need any advice just shout. it is a few quid though its well worth it and will last a lifetime if looked after, new brochure has recently been launched just looking at it yesterday

Ok, can't locate Shades furniture anywhere other than online so even although Mereway was the front runner, they now win by default anyway.

Next problem.....the basin I want requires the worktop to be straight edged, not bullnosed (because of the design of the basin). I can't find straight edged laminate or similar worktop 320 (possibly get away with 330 but ideally 320) depth and also 220 (again possibly 230) (I need both sizes). Any ideas?

I did find an online place that will custom make whatever size you want but custom = expensive so I'd like to exhaust all other avenues first.

I'd also prefer NOT to have to cut down a larger depth worktop as I'm planning on installing the units etc myself and I'd rather it was a factory finish top rather than a cpu finish top.
  • Having searched all over for good bathroom furniture, we settled on Mereway - not the cheapest option, but it looked good.
When the units were delivered, we found that several were damaged, marked or poorly finished (hard glue smeared all over fascia; scratches and badly finished corners). Even the undamaged ones had marks that needed cleaning off. As we are in the middle of a bathroom refit, this has caused delay and aggro. We've been promised replacement parts by courier, so fingers crossed. But, of course, decent quality control would have prevented this in the first place.

We had Mereway bathroom furniture in our last home. When we come to rpelace the bathroom in this home we'll definitely use them again.

The quality and the finishing were far better than expected. I can only imagine that Nethers caught them on a bad day.

Please do you have a link mike1984. I've googled IQ Living and can only find accessories and not bathroom furniture - would love a look, what am I doing wrong?
  • you should check out paramountbathrooms.co.uk.

A friend of mine was recently furnishing her new cloakroom and was having the same problem, which company to choose, when she came across a local company paramount bathrooms. They made her units to her exact measurements for a fraction of the cost either was offering.
  • I sell both these brands and have been in the bathroom business for 30 years. In my opinion Mereway is a slightly better product. They offer a better and easier to manage range of sizes and although build to order
generally offer a 7-10 day turnaround. The prices are competative and finishes and options are good. i never have problems with them and are a good company to deal with. They also willdeliver direct toyour home.

Contact me if you like and i will help you both with design and a good price.
