Hi there! Well done on facing up to things. I think that danielleindebt's suggestion to go back to payplan and explain the situation is the best. At least you would know whether it's an option. I don't know what grocery prices are like in NI but I have managed to feed 5 of us on £150 a month when I've needed to, including all the cleaning and toiletries stuff.

hi there and thankyou for replying..
joeblack, I'd love to shop around for gas/elec but we only have one gas supplier and one electricity supplier over here
so thats not a option I'm afraid :(
Have started meal planning again which is definately saving money, I managed to do our weekly shop for under £50 last week :T
Will be switching to rollies for definate and then HAVE to stop smoking!

I have already taken my car off the road so that will save us £60p/m in insurance and £40 in petrol....

Some of the debt(for the credit union) we can't really include in the DMP as it's through OH's work and gets paid directly from his wages :( We looked into this before....
I'm not sure we will be able to include new things into the DMP these were built up when we on it(stupid I know)

If we sold up, yes, we'd be paying more in rent but we wouldn't have life assurance and rates to pay, plus we'd be debt free....

We are planning on moving to Australia next year(all being well) anyway so will be selling up then anyway...
Will be starting a spending diary today, thanks for that.

    hi ya :)
You never know, he may decide that he wants to in the future...dn't give up on your dream just yet ;)
All my family are over there and I used to live there, have wanted to go back for years but the OH wasn't too sure. Recently he decided that he'd like to give it a go
We have to wait till early next year before he can apply for the police where we want to go(they only recruit once a year and we'd like him to have a job to go to  )....it's all a step in the right direction though.
Going to see a mortgage advisor at our bank tomorrow...not holding out much hope really but OH wants to exhaust every avenue before we sell up.
i'm just exhausted with all of this and know in my heart that we should just sell up, I've gone over the figures tons of times....
I feel like I'm in limbo just now.

Please don't think I'm having a go or anything, but I honestly don't think you should sell up. Here's why...

You got in debt, you put it into a loan
You got in more debt, you went on a DMP
You got in even more debt...

Selling the house and releasing the equity to clear the debts won't address the problem that you are overspending and relying on credit to get by.

You need to address the problem and sometimes the only way to do that is to struggle on.

I hope that doesn't come across as preachy, seriously, look at my DMP Advise thread, my household is up to their eyes in debt too.
Two re-mortgages, a secured loan, two loans and NINE credit cards later - I think my parents have finally decided to change their habits

Dannielle....he has 5 years service here currently, they are looking for at least 3 years service. It won't be easy, he will have to undergo fitness tests, interviews e.t.c. He will need to read up and get fitter.
gemmzie...I know you are not having a go and I appreciate your reply :) xx
I know what you are saying, we need to address the prblem, we need to budget properly e.t.c.
We are willing to do that but currently we are are having NO life, our kids are not doing much and I keep having to say no. Even a simple birthday pressie for my dh is a total nightmare(we normally just get eachother a card)
I only learnt to drive end of last year and have just sold my car as we can't afford to keep it on the road. The public transport here isn't good and my OH takes the car to work a lot, so I'm stuck in with the wee ones.
My OH and I have started to argue over money lately, we have been together 9 years and have been through a lot together, we are normally solid but lately I've been worried about our relatinship :(
I have gone over every scenario for us an I can't see any way out apart from selling(considering we would be selling in a year anyway)

Just take a reading of your electrcity and gas reading i was using approx 33 per day i am now averaging 12. I haven't done too much, stopped using tumbler, turning lights off, washing at 30 degrees rather than 50 making sure all stains removed before going in washer. When i use the cooker i bulk do it now. On sunday if i am doing a roast i bake my bread and buns for the week make the most of it type thing.
