A few years back I had nothing but trouble trying to get reduced in price giant Easter eggs and each one, and their replacements, were smashed to bits. I ended up having to go instore to get them.

Yes but in a bricks & mortar shop you can see the date for yourself & make a decision,you don't have that luxury buying items online so if they are short dated it should say so.

The only boxes that are reduced are seasonal because they happen to be packaged in the shape of a Christmas tree. I wouldn't expect them to last until next Christmas, but equally I would expect a few months on them. They're for home consumption after all, you couldn't make a gift of them now.

I'd like to know how many per box before I commit any money

Agreed, it would be helpful to have some guidance.
But with seasonal stock, I guess you need to expect that it might have a short life span.
