Ebay photo??

I sold an item yesterday & have just noticed that someone sold the same (?) with a BIN on the same day.
I find it very odd that they have used my photograph to sell their item, there is absolutely no doubt that it is mine.
I noticed that they have a negative for item not recieved on a previous listing.

Is this some sort of scam??

Possibly- you can always report others members who use your photo without permission.

Please do report them for unauthorised use of your photo!

I have had my photos and item description utilised by other sellers a number of times - it's rather annoying! Bizarrely, I've even had a couple of cases where the seller was selling something that plainly did not match my photo!

To be fair, recently, eBay has been very quick to remove the listing showing my photo. EBay seems to present an image of taking the issue seriously and I'd like to think the seller gets a warning, but who knows?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Couldnt understand why they needed to use my photo instead of their own.

Someone Chinese on Ali Express has copied my description.

Alas, it does not match the item he is selling.

It's possible - unlikely, but possible - that the chap who bought the item from you is also the chap selling it, but using an alternative account. In this case it would only work if he had set up a one-day auction, or if he was absolutely guaranteed of being your winning bidder.

It's basically the same technique used on Amazon's marketplace, and for that matter in the real world. It's just that instead of buying the item from you, inspecting it, putting it to one side and selling it a week later, he's selling it before he even gets it from you. He has to use your photo because he doesn't have it yet and he doesn't want to use a stock image.

This is why (for example) if you buy a cheap photo filter from a UK supplier sometimes it takes as long to arrive as if it was being shipped from China, because it is being shipped from China. They get around it by using language like "UK auction" or "UK despatch", e.g. a man in the UK tells a man in China to despatch it.

It's a risky way of doing business. It relies on the buyer being willing to wait for delivery until after the seller can bank the money, and it relies on the goods being up to snuff, and the supplier shipping them in time. In this case some buyers might wonder why two items have the same photos, and suspect foul play. But business is risky.
