Pre-op Blood Tests

Kitten is being neutered next week. When I booked the appointment, the vet advised me of the price, they also recommended a pre-op blood test to test kidney function etc. The blood test costs more than the op.
We never had the tests done when our rabbits were neutered, but did with the dog.
Would you/Have you had this test done before the op?

Nope I've never had it done on any of my cats (7) or my 2 dogs. And either had my nan or mum on theirs.
Wasn't even offered it tbhFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
For a young, apparently healthy animal with no worrying symptoms, no known genetic disposition to problems (e.g. parents who didn't cope with anaesthetic well, or of a breed known to have heart issues or similar) I probably wouldn't bother.0

When my cat had an op last year then they asked me if I wanted blood tests done. They said though that they were mentioning them because my cat is a bit older (12) and therefore at a higher risk of kidney/liver problems which could affect the anesthetic. Ended up having them done in the end as I thought it was better safe then sorry but they did seem to imply that on a younger, healthy animal there would be little need for them.0

We have had this twice on our dog, once before neutering and again before dental treatment. I think its really not necessary with a young healthy animal and as you say, very expensive. However, when you are asked and you look at your pet, you tend to agree
