It's a classic softening up campaign, threaten the worse through leaks then change it but by the least worse option.

I think they'll find it hard to do that as holders of index linked gilts will all be screaming "default" is it will hit some of them by as much as 40% capital losses if RPI drops by 90 basis points.

Note that I said "hard" rather than "impossible"!
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I guess this is a suitable point to say "I told you so." :D

    Thanks!

My wife just called me a !!!!!! when I said "Hah!" to the TV when this was announced over breakfast so it's nice to find somewhere where I'm appreciated. :D

I thought the moneybox guy said they weren't going to use the new RPI-J figure? As said, those who invested in UK gilts would scream murder.

And what is with replacing an RPI figure based on 18th cent tech on one using 19th century stuff?
