It really depends on the deal you have done. If you have not discussed leaving the disc, just remove it when you drive in to do the swap. You can arrange to get your own road tax too, but normally you can get them to 'give' you the tax and let them do the tax...or give them the payment to get your disc (you will have to give them a copy of your insurance cert to let them get the tax disc) Cheers

You will never get a valid tax disc off a dealer on any car you buy.

I would cash in the disc of the car I was taking in.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Never? WRONG!....I have always, 100%, got 6months/1 years road tax on every car I have ever bought from a dealer.

You need a valid insurance certificate to get a tax disk, so cars that are sold with tax have been traded in with tax.
Personally I would take the disk out, or get the garage to pay for it...

We are updating our car soon, its probably one worth scrap now, due to some idiot hitting our car 6 months back when stationery outside our house.

Cant afford the high prices in showroom for 2nd hand car not locally anyhow, so probably buy of autotrader, prefer a dealer.

I am planning on cashing in tax as I only got it last week and it hasnt even started yet
  • just ask for it at the start of negotiations they will adjust the trade in rice accordinly, the remaining tax is riced in to the trade in price otherwise.

When the dealer has done the valuation he will have taken the tax disc into account in his valuation at the time.
If you then take it off he will more than likely change the deal or pull out completely.
Always be clear at the start as to whats included / not included then you will not have any problems

Every car I have bought has included tax as I have insisted on it as the last bargaining tool. When I take my part ex in, I always take the disc out before I leave it - no questions asked, I then get a form from the post office and send it away for refund. The last garage I bought from actually told me that any taxes left on trade ins are sent straight away to the DVLA for any refund available as it adds to their profits!
