Sony Nav-U U50 Satnav Headaches.

Having missed out on one of the Medion specials at Tesco earlier this month , I've taken the plunge with a refurbished Sony Nav-U U50 unit from Valutech. Paid £69.99 + del = £74.
Being a satnav newbie I wondered if I'm experiencing abnormal problems with this unit.
1. I can stand outside on a clear evening and fail completely to pick up a satellite signal - surely this isn't right ?
2. When I place the unit in my car and commence my journey , the satellite signal is very erratic , sometimes I can travel a couple of miles without a route refresh.
Any other Sony satnav users / gurus care to comment.?

Hi,
You may just have a faulty unit. initial "gps lock" shoudlnt take more than a few minutes from a cold start and it should def pick up outside.
Regarding the in car performance it may be due to some athermic heat-reflecting windscreens and built-in windscreen heaters block GPS signal reception via the windscreen
so you may have to buy a external antenna accessory to work around this but it looks like your unit maybe faulty anyway.0
