Tax credits and DLA

I currently have two daughters on the higher rate of DLA which made quite a difference to our tax credits. One of the girls is currently going through a reapplication and renewal~the award runs out at the end of June.I am starting to worry....what happens if the renewal is not succesful?I'm assuming they'll reduce the monthly amounts pretty drastically....fair enough..
And what happens if there's a gap between the award finishing and being renewed IF it is sucessful? For that "gap" period I'll only have one child on DLA...will they just adjust it again?
I tried ringing them but the person I got new NOTHING:mad:

  • If the DLA isnt re-newed then then the disability premium and higher rate premium will be cut.

Thankyou~I realise it'll be cut...I'm just thinking they've worked out our annual award on the current circs right? So if the situation changes part way through the new year and the award changes I'm looking at a massive cut to cover the difference right?I'm just panicking a bit tbh,as I know the whole DLA process can take forever and I@m worried we'll be broke in the meantime:o

  • If you're claiming for DLA it now, and you're confident that going to be getting it again soon after June (even if there is a gap) - I'd be inclined to just not inform the Tax Credit people. Obviously if you said you were claiming DLA when your daughter wasn't eligible for it - then there would be problems, but if its just a matter of weeks while you're waiting for the new DLA award to kick in then I can't see the harm. Its probably not a textbook answer, but just my thoughts on it.

If you do tell them that its going to end, tell them as soon as possible after the DLA has stopped so at least they're not going to be asking for owt back as an overpayment - and adding a further blow.

if you havn't heard back by the time the award ends, ring tax credits the day the old runs out and tell them that ,although she was on high rate you havn't heard back from dla about continuation of award. If they do stop it and you then get confirmation of the award, they will then back date it.

you could just leave it until you get the new award letter as any continuation will continue from the date the old 1 ends, then if she is moved down a level ring tax credits and tell them she is no longer on higher rate. If she does get lowered to middle or low rate you will still get the basic dissability element, you will only lose the severe dissability element.
