Bad luck always comes in threes

At least I hope that is true because I have just had my 3rd lot of bad luck and could do without any more. Looking at all this in an MSE kind of way it has only cost me £270 so far so could be far worse.
The car packed up 4 days before Xmas but a fabulous garage near me managed to fix it the same day so my Xmas plans could still go ahead.
I got home from visiting family to find the curtain rail in the lounge almost falling out the wall. If it had come down it would most likely have smashed the TV and ruined that, so I am thanking my lucky stars I caught it in time. A lovely neighbour of mine came over and helped me take it down safely. He recommended a way of making the wall much stronger before putting the curtains and rail back up and spent most of Monday helping me sort it out.
Today I am spring cleaning the kitchen and while clearing out the area under the sink, I discover a small leak coming from the copper piping. Made a call to the lovely company who fitted my kitchen a couple of years back and they are sending someone out this afternoon to hopefully fix it. They were always superb and I have had no other problems. The owner phoned me to make sure I was okay and said he will come over with one of his fitters to ensure it is all resolved fast. I cant believe I didn't notice the leak earlier and am kicking myself. Being a lone parent everything falls on me to keep an eye on and sort out and I feel I fail at this from time to time.
Sorry for the moan folks. I am lucky to have alot of lovely people around me who I can call on when problems occur. I was just hoping that things would settle down as last year I seemed to be regularly sorting out stuff that was going wrong. Hopefully this will be it for a while.

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Now that these 3 things have happened, that's the run of bad luck out of the way !
The only way is up ^:jTurn your car around.0 -
No, bad luck doesn't come in three's as there is no such thing as luck.
Look at life in a people way rather than an MSE way - like you said things could be far FAR worse.
If you do think luck is real, then have a look around and think of all the wonderful things you are lucky to have rather than the 3 very minor things that have happened.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

You could look at it as 3 pieces of good luck - a great garage, a wonderful neighbour and finding a leak before it found you!
Glad you got it all sorted.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

I read your OP and saw that as a run of good luck! All those really helpful people! Old cars go wrong, there will always need repairs doing at some point. Houses always need maintenance of some sort or another.
What a fab neighbour - what fantastic good fortune to be living next to him.
It sounds like you are very tired OP and feeling a bit worn out with having to be responsible for everything and having no one to share the practicalities with so things like these seem bigger than they are (Been there).I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
OP lets hope that your neighbour isn't married as his OH maybe on here sooner or later posting Is my OH having an affair with our neighbour...0

2010: My husband lost his dad, his mum and we lost our baby daughter.
2011: We got married, our second baby was born and he got a brilliant new job
2012: His sister had a near fatal heart attack, he was involved in a car crash and we were 'diagnosed' with infertility.
Therefore 2013 should be utterly bl00dy brilliant!14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -

They are in their 80s, I am in my 30s. I hope she wont be overly worried
Thanks to all who responded to my moan with lots of really good advice and perspective. Leak all sorted now, there was a problem with the valve so not a major problem. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. I've found that all disasters happen when you are least able to cope and/or afford to rectify the problems. So far, my car had a major wobble this morning (literally!) and was put right quickly at a cost of £100. I'm glad it didn't cost more, glad it was done today and glad it happened today rather than next week, when OH travels on the motorway in it.
I'm relieved for you that the problems were all noticed and sorted quickly. As another poster said, the only way is up!0 -
That's the theory I subscribe to Shelley
I still feel really uncomfortable when I have a full tank of fuel in the car as a few years back I had a run of car problems but only on the rare occasions when I had enough money to put more than £5 or £10 of fuel in - a fuel line leak just after I'd put £20 in, a car stolen and wrecked just after I'd put £30 in and the replacement car written off in an accident (other driver at fault) just after I'd put £30 in. Actually make that a lot of years ago - just realised I could do a weeks driving on £5 to £10 fo fuel depending on the week and I do less miles now and it costs £20 a week!!!
My DH gets paid 4 weekly so we effectively have 1 pay period a year that no rent comes out of and the idea is always that we do something good with this "extra" money - however the last 3 years in a row something expensive has gone wrong with the car each time it has come round - this time it's the link on the gearbox. Still on a positive note at least it didn't happen another time when we had less spare!0 -
