Sky+ HD box getting out of sync when playing back

Options
Hi all,

Not sure if this problem has been mentioned before, but I hope I could get some feedback from others here who might have had the same problem.

We have had a Sky HD box for ages now but not used the HD channels much. Now that the channels have been rearranged by Sky on the EPG (HD channels nearer the top of the list) we watch more of them and would like to record from them. However, whenever I record any HD channel and play it back the sound is around 2 seconds behind the video making it very annoying to watch. It's same whenever I 'live pause' an HD channel and restart it.

I've phoned Sky, done the system rebuild etc, but no luck and Sky seem to fob us off every time we phone.

Is there a solution or is it a common problem? Our box is connected to our TV directly via HDMI (no extra speakers involved).

Thanks for any experiences shared.

  • It's a persistent but intermittent fault that Sky seem unable/unwilling to sort out.

Seems to happen more if you select to record an HD channel from the EPG whilst tuned to an SD channel.

For ours we have to change to an HD channel first then call up the EPG then program the recording. If it happens during playback we switch to any live HD channel then back to the recording.

These workarounds may be worth a try. Slightly annoying but we've got used to doing it now.

Thanks! Will try that. I thought that the type of channel the box was on whilst recording (HD/SD) made a difference but had not tested it. Will try your suggestions.

Sound can be delayed via the settings panel, not that it will fix the problem and would obviously impact on SD playback.

Having once had a similar issue, the culprit was a dodgy coax cable.
