How does switching ACTUALLY work in the backend?

Hi all,
I was just wondering today about switching electricity suppliers and was thinking of how does it physically work in the backend. Does someone actually change power connections at the backend to my new supplier or something else happens?

No.
The only thing that changes is the name on the top of the letters, the account you pay your bills into and the number you ring up for support.
All the suppliers, such as British Gas etc, feed the gas and electricity they generate into the National Grid.
This is then held and distributed to home and businesses in the UK when it is required.
It's the same gas and electricity no matter which supplier you are with.I am a moneysaver0
