Interest charges after DD changed from full to min on credit card without consent

Hi,
I feel I've been scammed by Santander in relation to a Paypal credit card I had.
I set up a direct debit to pay this Paypal credit card off in full each month. However, last year without me knowing, they changed it to the minimum payment and then started charging me interest each month on the remaining balance (they say it's because I made a couple of late payments).
Eventually Paypal and Santander split, and Paypal cancelled the credit cards. At that point, I stopped using it and believed that was the end of it. However, when I still had payments going out each month for this credit card I realised something's not right (my mistake for not checking it was getting paid off in full sooner).
Anyway, I thought it may have been fraud so I cancelled the direct debit. Next thing I know I have Santander contacting me demanding payment. When I looked through my statements, I realised there was a balance of almost £3000 outstanding because only the minimum payment had been paid each month rather than the full.
After speaking with them, I said I'm happy to pay for my purchases but I refuse to pay the interest as they made the change without my consent. I genuinely feel I've been scammed and don't agree with these scheming tactics the banks use to get money out of us!!
I feel I'm within my rights and am happy to make a stand. Need further advice though so please help as it's been going on for a while now and I need to sort it out asap.
Thanks!

You must have known full amount was not being paid. You would have seen this easily from Paypal Credit Card statements and also Santander Bank Account Statements.
You are obviously at fault....You have not been scammed.

Did you not notice the larger balance in your current account? I certainly would notice if I had 3000 pounds more!
Best thing to do is make a complaint to Santander cards and see where that gets you, it most definitely is not a scam!
Santander will have records of when the direct debit was changed and how it was changed.
Good luck0 -
Well this is the thing, this Paypal credit card was not my main one so when I say £3000, that's over about a year and a half. Totally my mistake for not keeping on top of things and checking, but I still wouldn't expect them to change it from paying off the total balance to the minimum - and even if they did, I should still have been notified. I don't think they had any right to change it.
It just annoys me how the banks can do whatever they want and we have to just accept it.
Will give it a go anyway and see where it gets me. Thanks for the help guys!0
