I bought the above today. I am trying to access my home wireless internet. I have taken the following action.

Settings: chose Wi fi and it brought up my network as an option
selected my network and it asked for my password
Entered password which it appears to accept
It now shows my wireless account name in the settings list but if i click on this, it takes me to a new screen.

This screen gives IP address info. with the headings DHCP, BootP and static. At the bottom of the screen, it says Renew Lease. What does this mean?

I have no idea what else i can try. If i try Safari, it tells me that I have no connection.

Thanks

Have you updated to the very latest ios (connect to itunes, see if it asks to update the ipod)
Does it do this on all wifi networks, or just yours?
    What router/isp do you have?
Have you tried turning off the password, leaving it open and seeing if it'll connect to that (and be able to surf)
Have you tried putting your network details in as "other/select a network/anything but auto detect" (can't be more specific, can't find my itouch currently)
Are you sure your password is correct? change it to something simple and try again, then revert to a harder password when tested.
Have you cycled the router? (reset it)

I will try these options tomorrow. Have only had a short time this evening. Have not yet connected to itunes with this new iPod.
Router is a Netgear one. I currently have a lodger who is using the wireless so I know it does work.
I will test it on another wireless network tomorrow.

I'm sure the latest notification i had about updates, quite recently, week or two ago maybe, had something about a wifi issue, so I'd suggest first option would be to try and see if it is running on the latest ios.
Basically try the above suggestions, if nothing else works, and it does not connect to any wifi network (and allow you to search/browse etc) then I'd suggest dropping into an apple store and let the genius bar at it. Take in your receipt (whether bought from apple or not) to show how "new" it is. They'll either sort it, or switch it out.

Overnight it has magically started working ! I did check the iTunes last night and that was up to date. I then went to bed. I switched it back on this morning and suddenly both the email connection and my internet access worked!
I am now trying to work out how to only have my 'ticked' music tracks on the ipod (eg. i want to untick Christmas tracks) and how to shuffle (when i want to). I could do this with my old Nano without any problem.
I am old fashioned in that I would rather have a printed instruction booklet, not just have to look online all the time.

If you touch the right hand side of the network settings list (where the padlock/signal strength and 'arrow' are) you are looking at the information about your wi-fi. If you want to select a network, then you need to touch the left hand side where it gives the network name. The network you are connected to will have a tick to the left of it. To change you touch the name of the network you want.
