Electric Timer poser

Well, if you like a puzzle to start your New Year, then you've come to the right place.

I can remember having a similar problem with one of these devices last year. That was a different model and the questions were answered by someone we knew who had retained the little instruction guide.

Anyway, this item belongs to my mum and we can't figure out how it works, trying out various theories without success.

This is the exact item in question:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...F8&me=&seller=

Has anyone ever used one and has experience in working it? All we really want to be able to do is set a time for a light coming on when she's not at home, but we're baffled by the settings on the side of the damn thing.

Thanks!!

On the side it will be Off, On, or timed, timed is normally shown as a circle with hands at 9. I assume you know how to press the segments in or out or up or down for the required switching cycles.

Dont you simply push down the blue segments. The ones that correspond to the time you want it go on, and then the one to when you want it go off

really ? - a little experimentation would quickly show you how it works..

The switch on the side is usually has 2 positions,
    1. to overide the timer so the item stays on all the time.
    2 controlled by the timer

Well, you see that's where we're baffled. For instance, the setting with the clock face is obviously the "timed" setting that we set for a light coming on. So ok, say for talking's sake we set it for 9 o'clock tonight, there's no arrow position to indicate the time it is NOW. So does the dial sit with the current time at the centre top or what?

If there is no indicator on the front for the current time then try this:

Push in the dial segment that corresponds to the current time of day

Rotate the dial until the connected load switches on

You have now set the dial to the correct position

Now program the on/off times as desired.

I pointed out to the OP (post #2) that they should read the pdf I posted the link to, it explains how to operate the timer. However they took exception to the tone of my response which has been removed, a first for me.

...and FWIW, I thought the OP was bang out of order.

This was made clear in the pictures that have been removed along with the removed posts, also along with the OP's admission that he/she is partially-sighted.....
  • It looks very much like one I am currently using. The arrow is tiny and located on the side of the plate that the socket is in, approximately mid-way between the top of the three holes and the one on the right. (How difficult to explain clearly in words!). Do PM me if you need further description!

Ive got some of these. The problem I had was finding the marker for the current time. It is visible in the picture 45 degrees clockwise from vertical (kind of daft place, I'd have put it at 12 - straight up).
