Need entry level camcorder - suggestions

I am thinking of treating myself to an entry level camcorder and identified the JVC GZ-HM300 camcorder as suitable.
Thing is, it is advertised on US websites at around $160 give or take but the only place it seems to be available in the UK is on Amazon where it is priced at £500.00 What gives?
Any other suggestions?
