I forgot all about this. My free months are Feb/March. I was thinking about where I was going to find the money to tax my car at the end of Feb. My council tax is £130 a month my car tax is £260 so ive now got it covered. Got a big first mortgage payment going out at the beginning of Feb aswell :eek:0

Feb and March for us in Oldham too, so looks pretty much as if that's across the board.

Yes Feb and march for us too. But I have read from April councils will have to allow people to pay over 12 months if they wish to do so.
You are right, and I started a thread last night on the DFW board, and some very helpful people have looked into the council tax amendment 2012 papers, and all councils in England have to accept payments over 12 months from April, but you have to write and tell them you want to pay over 12 months.
BTW, the free months in the East Riding Council are Feb/March, I'm going to treat myself I think.0 -
It is February & March EVERYWHERE.
Part of The Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement) Regulations 1992 defines the payment parameters.
People who are already allowed to pay in 12 instalments are getting away with a relaxation of the Law, in advance of the changes highlighted in the post above.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Not really a relaxation of the law, it's discretion given to councils under Part 2 of schedule 1 of the 1992 regulations. It is part of the original regs.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
My mum and brother, who both live in Bedfordshire, have always paid their council tax over 12 months - they didn't request this, it's always been like that since it was introduced.0

I've always paid over 12 months and probably asked to do so initially.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0

I'm sticking with my Feb/March payments off - means I can snowball other debt in those months."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

If your LA has a 10 payment schedule it will be Feb/march that you have the payment holiday. Our LA collects payments over 12 months.0

I really like paying over 10 months and enjoy having the two month holiday. I'd like to do it with other bills. It's a little bonus during the cold, miserable months of the year.0
