Hiya,
A mate of mine has asked me to buy him a golf club on ebay, he doesnt have an account.
The club, I think is £130 with about £30 delivery coming from the USA
Does anybody know how much import tax / fees will be due? and at what point/where these need to be paid.
Many thanks

factor in about £32 VAT and £20 fees
when and how depends on the carrier
does the seller state who?0 -
Most import taxes etc are paid before the item will be delivered. You sometimes get a phone call telling you you owe a certain amount and to go online and pay it and the parcel gets delivred a day or so later

There's a handy import tax calculator here
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
Custardy is correct though.
Over £135 there would be duty to pay in addition to VAT..0 -
Cheers all.
I assumed there would be duty.
However that calculator says not, even when I quoted the value as £155.
Any thoughts?0 -

I used it and got it to the value Custardy gave you, it's either glitchy or you're doing something wrong.parking_question_chap wrote: »Cheers all.

There is no duty payable as the item is under £135 , but there will be VAT (not a duty but a tax, quite different!) due of approx £32. In addition there will be the carrier's fee for sorting out the VAT on your behalf. This varies, but will typically be between £8 - £20 depending on the carrier. As Custardy said...0

Not to be pedantic, but Import VAT is a "duty of Customs" and is not true VAT in the common sense of the term. VAT Act 1994 section 1(4) refers
