Super cheap abroad holiday?

I need a cheap holiday abroad for me (mum) and toddler (2 in May), to celebrate graduating university and to look forward to!
I don't really mind where, and I'm free any time, any day after 3rd May. What's the cheapest flights/locations? Or general cheap places to book with?
Live in Midlands, so Birmingham Int. would be best! It's our first time abroad

try and go (and return) before your child turns 2 and then you won't have to pay for a seat for them on the plane. I'd just have a look nearer the time as you should be able to get a good price in early may for the usual spots. you might be better heading for southern spain or portugal at that time as can be still a bit chilly in majorca for example. Have alook on skyscanner for cheap flights and then go on tripadviser to get advice of where to stay in the area. Try and fly somewhere where you can get a bus or train to a resort rather than having to fork out for a transfer or taxi. good examples are Reus for Salou, Cambrils etc or malaga where you can get to loads of places on the costa del sol by train or bus for peanuts0

Don't fall into the 'cheap All-Inclusive' trap - 'cheap' and 'all-Inclusive' don't really belong together.
I've heard and read horror stories about food - not just 'nothing that you fancy' but inedible.
Before you book, check out the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor.
You need to read between the lines as some people think that even if they stay in a 2* hotel, they should have 400 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and 24 hour room service.
But if poor food/dirty rooms is mentioned regularly, then maybe not a good choice.
I hope you find what you're looking for and have a great time.0 -
You must search for the destination which is nearest to your place. And definitely Switzerland and Paris (France) are the nearest destinations from your place. If we find best deals from LastMinute, It costs around 110 Euro from Birmingham to Paris and 120 from Birmingham to Zurich (Switzerland).0

Just a tip, East Midlands airport is often cheaper than Birmingham. To get some flights I'd just use skyscanner.net. You can use the everywhere function in the destination box. Remember to use tripadvisor before booking a hotel. Once you've chosen your flights, a good place to looks for hotels is either alpharooms or booking.com and remember tripadvisor, it's there to help.
edit: one more thing, with ryanair it's cheaper to buy the max size cabin bags than it is to buy checked luggage, you can get them for about £10 each (click here) and you should be able to fit everything 1 person needs for a week in there, there's a youtube video showing how much you can actually fit in one somewhere.0 -
Have a look on teletext holidays. I've had some AI, real cheap deals & I've never had bad food or a bad holiday. At least once you're there everything's paid for apart from any excursions that you may go on. Look on Tripadvisor to check out the hotel before booking. Portugal have some good deals for that time of year too as I've been looking for myself.0

I find much of the "inedible food" comments come from British people who go abroad and get ridiculously upset that they can't eat such delicacies like the "all day breakfast" and "chicken tikka masala" because the food is catering for all nationalities, not just British people.
I witnessed one particularly hysterical breakdown by a typical Brit in Egypt - he was furious that he couldn't get his God-given right to bacon for breakfast. The fact that it was a Muslim country was somewhat lost on him...
(meanwhile, I got stuck into a wonderful breakfast that he could have enjoyed too, had he only opened his mind a bit...)From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

I can't comment on the food in 'cheap' AI places personally (as I dislike the principle of AI and would never do 'cheap') but the people I've spoken to certainly weren't complaining purely about bacon not being available or not being able to get chicken tikka masala - hence my comment:I've heard and read horror stories about food - not just 'nothing that you fancy' but inedible.
When reading reviews, you really need to read between the lines to find out if the complaints are justified - hence my comment:You need to read between the lines as some people think that even if they stay in a 2* hotel, they should have 400 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and 24 hour room service. :cool:0
