    You eat pasta...?

Not in last two years since going low carb but OH does and isn't a fan of Lidl organic wholewheat fusilli so yeah I still do all 90% of the shopping.
  • I bought my last load of pasta off Amazon. A box of 24 x 500 gm bags for about £11 (Turkish organic penne). I am now on my next to last bag so will soon be ordering more.

Whilst the debate about the best dried pasta is ongoing - I think Barilla Emiliane is the best and particularly love the Strozzapreti one. But pretty hard to come by in the UK. The supermarkets in Italy are full of it and I always leave room in my case for a few bags and keep for special occasions!

Ive been tempted by the turkish pasta due to the wider range of shapes available but the bucatini I tried was very soft even with careful watching/ tasting. Which brand did you get on amazon and would you recommend it?

I like Barilla but its hard to get - waitrose used to do garafarlo which was ok but no longer. Aldi extra special pasta which thy have when they do italian specials is actually pretty good - but again limited on shape.

I got the Arbella penne rigate. I never found it soft and family never complained. My middle DGD would have pasta at every meal and no complaints off her either! That's the make I shall look for when I order some more.

It's a shame about lack of stockists of Barilla pasta. I've on occasion found it in a local continental shop which caters for the Italian population we have, but at a price!

Asian shops for rice; large Turkish grocers for pasta.

It's always worth keeping an eye out for offers on Approved Foods, but tbh I think the days of dirt-cheap staples are long over.

    I agree like this.thank you!

    For rice:

Veetee Supreme Basmati Rice 5kg is frequently £5.50 at Amazon though currently £7.98. Consider adding to camelcamelcamel price tracker if you think it's worth it.

Check the world foods/ethnic aisles at the supermakets as well.

Laila Basmati Rice (5Kg) £4 (80p/Kg) at ASDA

Kohinoor Silver Range Indias Finest Super Basmati Rice (10Kg) £8 (80p/kg) at ASDA

Shahi Pakistani Basmati Rice (5Kg) £4.98 (approx £1/Kg) at ASDA

Akash Basmati Rice (5Kg) £5 (£1/Kg) at ASDA

Trophy Indian Basmati Rice (5Kg) £5 (£1/Kg) at ASDA

Badshah Superior Aged Basmati Rice (10Kg) £10.45 (£1.50/Kg) at ASDA

    And

The Curry Leaf Basmati Rice (1Kg) £1.38 at Tesco

Prices appear to go up and down frequently, might be worth adding some to mySupermarket's Price Alerts.
