The commit charge total is 578972, commit charge peak 2496924, physical memory total 1038444, available 551372. The capacity is 69.1gb, used 68.6gb and free 548mb!

I've backed up all my photos, music & docs (twice!) so hoping I can free up a good bit of space.

Thanks for any advice.

if you are absolutely sure you have backed up twice in 2 different place, and the backups are readable, you could factory restore it as it has a factory restore partition. Suggest doing a full backup with macrium and creating a macrium boot cd first - video demo and links are in the speedup sticky

    Thanks closed.

I think I maybe noted the commit details wrong...its showing now total 387728, limit 3033500 and peak 715152.

I will do the cd copy as you suggest. Thanks again for your help.

ETA: I have tried to remove Microsoft Works as I've never used it, it came preinstalled on the machine. When I try this on add/remove programs I get a message telling me to insert the cd-rom and then no valid source could be found. When I tried to delete via Program Files, I got a message saying deleting could make some programs not work. Presumably only the Works programs would not work, or would this affect something else? I'd like to get rid of it but would like to know its safe to do so? Thanks.

you could delete, but it's probably not using much space up, and won't affect the speed of the machine, if you delete it, it will leave registry entries, best to leave it if the uninstaller wont work.

  • Hi

I have made the copy of the drive, put the laptop back to factory settings and am now working through the sticky...

For over an hour, the Malwarebytes full scan has been scanning C:/My Old Disk Structure, presumably this is as the name implies and is a copy of the previous drive before I went back to factory settings? Can I safely delete this as the machine seems to be working ok and all my files are on 2 external drives? When I clicked on the properties of the file, it says it is read only and it is 67.5gb, size on disk 63.3gb and contains 96,636 files. I'm now getting the very low disk space warnings again, I had hoped the factory reset would delete any unwanted bloat.

normally, a full factory reset shouldn't leave any files behind, how did you do it? Did you do a non destructive/no format restore?

and how did you make a copy of the drive?

have you checked your data is on both external drives?

if you want to be safe, and have space on the external drives, you could copy the old disk structure directory to external drives before deleting.

commit charge is getting better, but there will be a lot of windows updates to do.

how big is the hard disk in this system
