help!what to do now?

Options
Hi,i consolidated my 2 credit cards and 2 store cards.I even got letters from the credit card companies accepting this EXCEPT one credit card company who have referred me to another company who keeps on calling me and saying they will take action.I have told all this to my debt consolidators but this other company is not stopping, they call about 6 times a day and send letters. Will i have to go to court? i don't know what to do?am so worried as i've never been in a situation like this before!:(

So is it one of the cards you haven't paid, or your consolidation loan/card?

If possible, I would seriously consider contacting one of the debt charities such as CCCS, Payplan or CAB. I suspect Debt Care may be charging you a fee to manage your debts whereas the others are free. As for your other problem of creditors trying to contact you, I'm afraid this is pretty typical of the problems you'll encounter early on in a debt management plan (DMP), but it does usually quieten down after a few months once they realise they can't squeeze any more money out of you.

Strongly recomend that you do two things.

    1. Ring up Debt care and ssk them how much is being paid monthly to each of your creditors. Another posters here discovered that every penny of the £150 per month she had paid was being taken as management fees and nothing had yet been paid to the creditors.

    2. Ring CCCS or Payplan whose services are free. You may be able to transfer your DMP to them. Companies take their DMP arrangments rather seriously than those of some of the charging companies.

OK,i'm thinking of writing to dlc and offering to pay say £50 a month so they can leave me alone and stop calling. But i don't want to phone then as i think we won't come to an agreement on the phone. However can someone please advise as to what i should write in the letter please??

I really wouldn't contact DLC & start making offers that make them a preferential creditor as this could affect the T&Cs of your DMP. Also, once you've agreed a higher payment to them, what's to stop them thinking "We've had him once so we'll hassle him again for more money". As stated earlier, I really would find out what percentage of your payment is being taken in management fees by Debt Care & if any is then phone up one of the companies mentioned earlier. These free companies can & will deal directly with any problem creditors.

  • hi rain_dropz, i agree with Donedoingdebt. Find out how much of teh £100 is actually going on servicing your debt rather than there fees, if its very little i would transfer to cccs or payplan as they wont charge you... this will drop your debt free date by quite a lot :D
