Hoarding - A New Start

Hi all,
Can I join please.
I did look at the old thread but never quite managed to catch up. It did however make it clear to me that I am infact a hoarder and not just 'a bit messy'! I remember seeing a pic that I think Jojo had posted and knew I was in trouble when I thought - it doesn't look that bad:o
I can be quite good at getting rid of some stuff - CS/Freegle/ebay and such. It's the stuff that no-one wants that I can't get rid of. I hate just throwing things away and I think well I can fix it, use it, repurposeit, etc, etc, etc.... I did manage to throw out the breadmaker when it broke and didn't even wait to sort the electrical recycling people to come and collect it!!:T As you may gather this was a major achievement and I still have guilt:o

Hi lovelies. Happy new year one and all.
Middle room of doom is still usable after Other Half having a sessin in there with binbags and me absolutely forcing myself not to look in the binbags before he turfed them!
I am looking forward to things getting back to normal from now on. Mr is back to work tomorrow and the kids go back Monday. It is my busiest month at work (EVERYONE wants to lose weight in January) and I am making a few financial changes this year.
*pocket money per week. have already spent this weeks by impulse buying perfume in ebay (old habits die hard) so lesson learnt there
*online food shopping from a list- did a huge shop this evening- first post christmas food shop- £112 which isnt bad for 6 of us. Im going to start using the greengrocer again and doing online for the rest of the bits. Using the freezer more etc etc
*Save each month for next Christmas
*pay off credit card AGAIN
And of course continue to de-Richard. Clothes still an issue, but had a pretty successful ebay just before xmas (8 items £100) so am i quite inspired to do a Jan list or two!
I hope everyone is well and I look forward to sharing all our de hoarding this yearHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

I had a good clear out of the bedroom today.
For some reason I had trouble getting rid of boxes, that stuff had come in, like perfumes, so 6 boxes went in the bin also I had about a dozen cute little tins that once had chocolates in, tiny little heart shape tins, too small to really ever do anything with.
Fragrance oils all went as well because I do not remember the last time I actually used one.
Also some cheap jewellery from my younger days when I could not afford "good" stuff, it's very dated now and the only thing that I really hummed and ahhed about was a necklace set that I was wearing the night I met my husband, but you know, I am never going to forget that night and decided I did not need the necklace after all.
I still have craft stuff under the bed that I could sell so that is staying there for a while till I get around to selling it, but a year ago I was still trying to convince myself that I was going to make something out of it ......."One day"
But the real good news is that I can actually lie in my bed and stretch out, my room is quite small and because of all the clutter in the room, my bed was full of random stuff. From piles of clean washing to books to you name it. All that has gone. I might even get around to washing the sheets tomorrow.
So three large bags to go off to the tip next time my son comes around.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

My mother and her sisters all were born before and grew up through the war and non of them are horders. My elderly neighbour(90) isnt a horder either and non of them grew up with much money/material goods. I think it is more down to personality type + opportunity. Our current society is awash with consumeables and packaging.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
No decluttering today...well other than another trip to the recycling with MORE cardboard!
Quite a few ins today too (kids still have Xmas money). And I failed to be good and not spend in boots. At least I used my advantage points and not cash!
One other thing I bought was a wee set of pads which stick on the fridge on a wee magnetic board. One is a shopping list book and one is a daily menu book (not too sure about the menu one I'm not great at advance planning) hopefully they will help me to be a little more organised!
As OH has been off work today and yest I didn't do much in the house at all so tomorrow I'm going to catch up on the (small) ironing pile that has accumulated. I'm still aware proper pile is still just chucked out of sight though! No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
I've had New Year's week off and have done very little.
However, I have packed up the gifts and cards to my family which I'll be posting tomorrow. Better late than never, eh?
Imagine two big boxes (like the ones for posh quilts) packed with presents and wrapped and taped up ready to face the onslaught of the Royal Mail.
Oh, and one smaller one which fills a bin bag.
They're loaded onto my luggage trolley, ready to take to the Post Office tomorrow. Wish me luck. :rotfl:
As I was trawling through the bin bags on top of the wardrobe and the boxes under the bed, it dawned on me that although everything I'd hoarded made perfectly serviceable gifts, they hadn't been given as gifts - two or three years after I had bought them for that purpose!
So I'm having the L'Aimant, the nice SPF 15 face cream and the branded hand cream before it starts to go off. Saves me buying more.
I've cleared the top of the wardrobe of bin bags and I'm getting rid of a crate from the back bedroom and a twee cardboard box both of which are going to the CS.
More space! And an excuse to start using up my cross stitch stash.
Homemade here I come! :T
:j You all sound like you're all making great progess! :j:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I would like to join you.
Just after Christmas I had to clear out my spare bedroom at a day's notice. Some of the stuff went in my other bedroom (where I sleep) but I found a lot of it could easily be junked and I had been stepping over and around it for months. I am looking to clear out what is now in the other bedroom (some of it is clothes needing laundered or just put away and some can be disposed of). I hope to have that done by the end of this week before I go back to work on Monday.
However this has made me realise I likely have a lot of junk stored away in cupboards/wardrobes and drawers which I could get rid of and not miss. This will take some time - perhaps have it done by the time the clocks have gone forward? I wondered if anyone had any suggestions for how to tackle clearing out a wardrobe of stuff that hasn't been touched for a few years. I think quite a lot of it is paper - I seem to hang on to stuff like school and uni notes or exam papers for some reason when they cannot possibly serve any useful purpose now.
Someone on this thread (I'm afraid I can't remember who but I expect they'll know who they are) said they only want things in their home which are useful or or valuable. This idea appeals to me a great deal. Going round to a friend's house recently (like me she's in her 30s, single with no children and lives on her own) I was struck by how immaculate the place was. It looked like a show home. I could never have invited her round to my place with the spontaneity that she did. I would like to be in the position where I do not feel the need to have a manic clearing session before I feel able to let someone else visit me.0 -

Still not finished but having to put some things back as I won't have time to sort as dd2's bday and house needs to not look like local jumble sale. It by no way means I am giving up. I have been tip and girls are doing there room mesmerised by where dolls legs have gone?
As dd2 has a very small room she migrates to sis room who gets mad so I've told her she can have a corner in mine for baby annabel and to play in.
I have a wicker chair that I am having problems with... Desperate to keep it but no home.
Few things on eBay including vouchers that I would just buy clothes for the sake of it. These will be transformed into my new look living room which I'll top and tail with proceeds.Don’t put it down - put it away!
