I'm sure you're a very nice person and mean very well but I think that this relative is taking you for a ride.

You already know that she has been guilty of fraud in the past and she doesn't appear to have become more honest with time.

You may think it harsh but you need to accept that she's lying to you and taking your money under false pretences. Rather than trying to help her with money, why not try and help her with her job hunting, which will be of far more benefit in the longer term.

The age matters if they are not entitled to Tax Credits but as they are in education it means really this

That they are getting £85 per week in Tax Credits that savings do not and have not ever affected.

that is in addition to their other benefits.

Plus Child Benefit at £20.30 per week irrespective of savings now or in the past. So far - £105.30 per week, plus possibly £62.00 per week which she has told you she is receiving which can't be the CTC of CHB.

    Thankyou all.

I can see that we need to have a bit of a discussion if she is wanting to borrow again in the future. I'll do my best to give some constructive advice and help..What's the lowest amount someone can live on, I wonder ? I suppose different people, different circumstances and lifestyles dictate different answers.

Well thanks to all who helped/ very much appreciated.

    Go to turn2us

    Put in her details

    It will tell you

As I said *if* there is an overpayment from her JSA it will be 30% max (normally 20%). So from her JSA at £71 you are talking £14 pw maximum.

Child related benefits (CB and CTC) are not included in savings, you can have a million in the bank and claim. It is currently £85 (I included CB in that), per week.

If she has disabilities or the child has disabilities it is more.

add to this £3 a day school meals (high school) then this is another £15 a week etc.
