I have been claiming esa contribution based for 4 months now after an operation. I am currently signed off until end Jan 2013 although this is being reviewed monthly by gp while I recover.
How long will the esa last and will I be expected to attend an atos medical soon?

Have you been sent form ESA50 yet? If yes you need to fill in and return it as soon as possible to ATOS. Once that has been done, ATOS will decide if you need to go for a medical or not which you must attend. Then if you pass medical, you will get paid full rate of ESA backdated to week 14 of your claim. I did not get my ESA50 until week 17 of my claim and it was not final till 24th July from 12th Feb - but I did get my back dated upgrade on the same day as the letter arrived. which was 6th Aug. I expect that you are going to recover fully in time, so the ESA will not be forever and in fact it may well be that you are back to health before you get to go to that medical.0
