If there was a prize for the worst piece of advice to give a young couple starting out then you win hands down, no arguments there..

total, total tosh on both counts,

and if you believe theres still a "property ladder" in the present housing market then you`re in cookoo land,

thats the sort of advice that sends many a family into negative equity these times,

believe me there will be plenty of repos and auctions to choose from in 2013, you`ll find value there

If you`re buying now take rateable/capital value less 20% as a guide

Notwithstanding the fact that your post is remarkably rude you've singularly failed to notice that elsewhere I've said how I made money on the housing ladder by buying during the last recession. Were I a first time buyer I'd be leaping into a purchase just now. You don't have to like it, you just have to accept that it's my opinion and keep the rude comments to yourself.

You are quite right, rudeness isn't acceptable.

The only thing I would say is you are from England, where housing bubbles have grown and popped over the years and you have certain experiences with them. We here have seen the biggest increases and falls in the whole world (The first time we have ever had a bubble). Many are suffering and will continue to suffer for many years to come.

We have no real prospects here. We live in a small region subsidised by an increasingly indebted, former world economic power, whose best days are way behind it. I don't think your experiences apply here and telling people now’s a good time to buy based on them, could cause someone lots of unnecessary pain.

I've highlighted your first sentence because I need to tell you you have assumed incorrectly. I am from Northern Ireland, born bred and buttered. I just happened to be working in GB for 20 years. I did live in England for 3 1/2 years as a young man but I didn't need housing then as it was provided for me.

I've heard similar wailing when I was young and the Troubles were at their height but we survived that and our economy has grown considerably since then.

I stand corrected. The fact remains you have never witnessed the N.I. boom and bust.

And is about to contract by £2 billion with U.K. spending cuts. Not to mention the private sector losses.

We only grew because the Republic had a boom.

Different times now. I guess we'll see.

Don't you mean the Republic's Bank Funded Pyramid Scheme.

So what have I been living through for the last 3 years? Also, without giving away personal information, I have been very involved with the NI boom during my 20 years in GB.

Nope, we grew because of a number of factors. The Celtic Tiger was one of them, as was the Good Friday agreement.

I must say; you seem very determined to show me as somebody who knows nothing about the place where he was born and lives? How can you be so blinkered? May I suggest you calm it down and take the personality contest out of the discussion?
  • Careful Folks..... Don't you know, heated debate on the NI Forum results in people getting offended and the thread being deleted.... :D:D:D:D:D (Fleg Watch..... "said in a cough like way" :rotfl::rotfl:)
