Your body bio rythyms are at their lowest ebb in the early morning so given all other environmental factors are constant, you are likely to feel coldest in the early morning just before dawn because you've slowed right down. (That's why more folk die in the early hours too btw, if they were going to die during that particular 24 hours that is!)

Doesn't explain the sweats though. My guess is something hormonal. Menopause? I'm there atm, I have a thin duvet plus a blanket. The blanket gets dragged on and off several times a night but I always end up freezing first thing am, even if I've been sweating an hour previously. I would run it past your doc though.

OP, I just wondered if you ever got any answers?

I have had night sweats- a few years back they would appear every single night without fail, I managed to work out they'd happen after about 3am and would generally be over by 8am.
I had a big exercise "problem", was at the gym daily and noticed the night sweats were worse on days I didn't go to the gym, I did over-exercise (2+ hours of cardio plus yoga/weights or classes a day, proper stuff: using a heart rate monitor, reading books and books on performance based training...etc) however so going more was not a good idea but maybe may help to do a little -not OD-ing on it but just something and try to keep it to the afternoon rather then evening so your body has a chance to wind down.

I thought at one point eating late at night made things worse, I've never been able to prove or disprove this but since cutting back on what I ate late at night among other things seemed to help.

I have cut out dairy- this was because I reacted badly to it but it was also something I did which pre-empted the night sweats stopping.

It was a nightmare to deal with because I have a very cold room- I'd often find it hard to sleep because I'd be literally shivering when trying so I'd have to wear pjamas and use a decent duvet just so I had the chance to sleep- then I'd wake up drenched and shivering all over again as I'd had a night sweat. Every single night.

I am not sure if I am in such a great position to advise because my body is far from healthy at the moment but what I do know is that the night sweats have since stopped. I am in my early 30s so don't think the menopause was my issue (at least I hope not!) but I was experiencing very very painful periods at the time and always wonder if it was some sort of hormone issue, however my periods would only last 7 days where as the night sweats would occur every night without fail. It took so long to refer me to a gyno appointment that I never got to find out if there was any such issue with my hormones but if you have a knowledgeable GP or are able to afford a private gyno maybe you could ask them for help? I know Bupa offers various one-off consultations but doubt they're cheap!
