Digitally delivered goods, when did these become outlawed?

Between fee increases, harsh restrictions and dealing with crazy people, I'm surprised anyone sells anything on ebay anymore.

The only problem I can see is that paypal could get involved as the seller has no proof of posting, essentially inviting fraud, and fraud costs ebay money.

The answer to the post title is about 2-3 years ago, possibly longer.
I'd think fraud was a fairly good reason for them to stop it, amongst others. Both buyers and sellers were open to abuse.

I don't think any business would keep themselves open to fraud, even Ebay.

  • Except they are still getting away with doing it, i recently bought what was listed as a physical points card. They then sent the code by messages which is no good for me as i wanted it as a physical gift. So complained i wanted a refund and being ignored now i am stuck with regards to a claim as i do technically have the item but i can't do anything with it. I can't send it back for a refund as there is nothing to track/send back. First time this has ever happened so i'm stuck now!
  • You can easily say you haven't received it and get your money back, the seller has no way to prove they sent it, sending the code via message doesn't count.

You shouldn't then use the code though if you get your money back, as that would be fraud, but if you did, I doubt it would get to court...

If it was bought through Ebay and paid with Paypal you can file a 'not as described' item. You purchased a physical item and never received it.

Thanks both of you I have opened an inr case through paypal as not received what I bought. Have told the seller the code is unused as no good to me. Weird one that's never happened to me before

Under the circumstances you will probably be ok, but I'd assume that at some point via Ebay messages you have actually confirmed that you have received it, so be careful with how you word any responses, should the seller dispute it.

  • I also think you are the exception to the norm, most who have bought off me wanted the code sent via email.

I know if I was buying a code, I'd want it asap.
