Hi everyone, Id like to wish you all a very happy new year.
My mother is claiming JSA and housing benefit. I currently live with her whilst i am studying at college. I work part time. I do not have to pay towards housing costs as my monthly wage is below £200.
In order to apply for my dream job, i need to start saving for a course that costs £1,000 I have two years to save this amount so it shouldnt be difficult. My first question is will this have an impact on my mothers benefits?
My next question is the most important. I am due to recoeve an inheritance of £20,000 from my late Maternal grandmother when i turn 21. I know that i will probably have to pay towards housing when i get this and this is fine. My main concern is that it will affect my mothers JSA! it is VERY important that my mother knows mothing about the money and does not recieve a penny as my grandmother cut her out of her will. I am terrified that I will have to replace my mothers benefits with my inheritance, my mother cannot benefit from this money in any way.
Could anyone who is more knowledgable than me clarify things?

I would ask this on the benefits forum.0

Probably best if you move out before you are 21 as this will avoid the lump sum being an issue as well as maintaining your privacy regarding your mother knowing of it.0
