Hi Guys, I,ve always taken out Legal expenses insurance, with my car insurance, my daughter asked me about it, as she came across this company charging £7.50 pa, instead of £26 upwards, but it,s a no win no fee company. I wouldn,t use them, unless someone has recommened them..
Has anyone come across them or is there other companies that do legal cover cheaper than insurance companies.?
Advice appreciated.

It is normal to find the insurance offering more expensive than standalone contracts.

    Sounds a bit daft.

Why are you paying for a no win no fee service?

Normally if you pay for legal costs insurance then ALL the costs are always covered regardless, and you get to keep all your compensation.

"no win no fee" is different - the fees will still have to be paid for out of any compensation you get. There are plenty of "no win no fee" solicitors, I personally wouldn't pay an annual fee to have access to one.

Hi, That,s my opinion. I,ve always used insurance companies own, but my daughter, for some reason asked me about these. I said I wouldn,t touch any no win no fee, company, but would post it, and give her feedback.I,ve always had it, but she has never had it before. I told her, I wouldn,t be without it.I will put her off using them;

Hi Thanks, This stand alone policy is dubious to me, no win, no fee, to save about £20 per annum.I like to know I,m covered, not rely on win or lose.

Hi, Thanks very much. I,ve posted all 3 posts on here to my daughter, and advised her, not to touch them.As soon as I saw NWNF, that was enough for me.Haven,t a clue where she came across it, it aint as if she,s short of brass, to take a chance on them.
She asked me to check them out, so , if she goes with them, that,s her loss. Cannot do any more. Thanks for all you,ve done guys, really appreciated. Have a Happy New Year.

I've looked at the site. MEM Online is an Insurance Broker which is Regulated by the FSA.
The Product is most definately not a 'no win no fee' as the product is an Insurance policy again underwritten by a Company Registered by the FSA.
They seem to have an offer on for free Home Legal Protection if you buy any product with them.
This offer was originally for December but I E Mailed them and they told me it has been extended to January and the site will show this in the next couple of days.
Their Home Legal is also underwritten by a company registered by the FSA. In fact they sell several products on their site all of which are underwritten by companies registered by the FSA.
The site states that they have been trading for over 40 years.
I would say that you should not purchase any type of product such as Legal Protection if it is not regulated by the FSA. Joe is correct to raise this though.

Was it quiet in the office today? Or is it your job to search for MEM on the internet? :)

What about the points i raised? Looks like some poor attempt to create a fake site to me.

Avoid them until they fix the issues.

Amusing how the website advises how Kindertons who are a fairly large provider in the Credit Hire market with a large fleet of vehicles will provide a "Courtesy Car".

Claims will be handled by Kindertons who are an accident management company (Ambulance chasers) or they will sell it on to another such company

    Oh dear

The website is not registered as a business which is a bit naughty
  • I have a biased slant on this, but I can't really see what the issue is with using a NWNF outfit for an accident instead of ending up in the clutches of a factory firm appointed by your LEI providers.

Legal Expenses Insurers never provide a proper indemnity on their policies anyway and the law firm they shove you onto are never allowed to claim any costs from the policy.

Until people realise they don't need to be mugged for £20-£40 for this cover, the insurance industry will be happy to keep on flogging people this cover or sneaking it in at renewal when you asked for it to be removed at the point of new business.
