National Insurance Contributions.

Hi, I have recently signed off due to lack of childcare for my 11 month old baby . I was getting JSA contribution based and its suddenly occurred to me that my NI won't be getting paid. I have no income apart from child benefit and tax credits and husbands salary. Does anyone know if there is a way to continue getting my National Insurance paid? Many thanks

As you are in receipt of Child Benefit you will be entitled to something called Home Responsibilities Protection which although not a National Insurance credit reduces the number of years you need to qualify for your full pension. This should automatically be applied to your account but you can check with your National Insurance office if you wish. The other alternative is to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions.
