Continuing on with the theme to stop the ticket touts exploiting presale info to make a tidy profit, here's the details for the upcoming Keane concert that I've just received in an email:
"Just got word that Keane (those nice piano based indie rock type people - with the hardcore rocking names Tim, Tom and Dominic) are doing a live show in the Point depot in Dublin on Thursday 19th July. For those of you that have never seen them - they actually put on a really good show.....the piano player Tim resembles somebody with St Vitus dance getting electrocuted he's so animated!
The long and short of it is that this concert is bound to sell out when it goes on sale on Friday this week. For those of you with a genuine interest in going the tickets can be bought on presale from https://www.keanemusic.com (I think the direct link will be http://keanetickets.sandbag.uk.com/Store/DisplayItems.html at 10am on Wednesday morning (25/4/07). Tickets are priced €44.20 - €49.20."
Apologies if it is felt this post is in the wrong place but I think it pertains more to Norn Iron (and indeed ROI) than the rest of the UK.
Pass it on!

Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

I just would wonder exactly how much control bands have over where they play their gigs and how much is down to the financial negotiations of their promotors and those that manage the various venues. Given the lack of decent sized concert venues in Northern Ireland as a whole (Ulster Hall, King's Hall, Odyssey, Waterfront, Millenium Forum and occasionally Botanic Gardens) I think it simply isn't possible for all bands to fit a date in NI into their tour schedule. One half of me would agree with you.......I think Northern Ireland needs more cultural development for music and the Arts as a whole - although it is improving every year that we have managed not to blow everything up and kill each other. On the other hand, I would have missed so many opportunities to see great bands had I restricted myself to Northern Ireland, or indeed the island as a whole. For example Glastonbury will host loads of up and coming bands before they hit mainstream success. On the same vein, if I'd restricted myself to the Ulster Museum I would have never seen a Picasso, Rembrandt or Renoir.
The point of the initial post, however, was simply to try to help those that are interested to maybe get their tickets early. Given that most concerts now sell out within the first hour or two and the tickets appear on eBay at grossly inflated prices, I have been trying to post all the presales that I get access to in an attempt to save my fellow MSE'ers a few quid in the long run.
There are many posts on this board that don't capture my interest or indeed apply to me - personally I just scan past them and don't let them bother me.Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. I love the art analogy, works beautifully0 -
N.Ireland needs some more gigs. I study music management and live production - my aim is when i get to where i want to be ill be sending my bands over here to play. It pees me right off that the music scene here isnt that great but it isnt that far from London where I love hanging out for the sake of the endless gigs!0

Most bands play Dublin only, when youre on the Island already why not travel north? the Odyssey Arena is the best venue in Ireland, the waterfront is great for smaller bands & the Mandella/Kings & Ulster halls are sitting empty most nights. More & more bands are playing the likes of the limelight & spring & airbrake but theyre over 18s only and the kids are missing out. I was talking to Chris Burney from Bowling for Soup about why no Belfast shows and he said it was the cost of getting the band, crew & gear across the Irish sea. So there you go, screw the fans its about the money...Well I Love Tv And I Love T. Rex, I Can See Through Your Skirt I've Got X-Ray Spex0

I'm in agreement there Artofdookie about the money bit, as mentioned above. I do disagree, however, that the Odyssey is the best concert venue here......the acoustics suck! Couple that with the fact that the actual infrastructure was never put in place to allow people to get to and from the venue easily and the throngs of spides there most nights and the Odyssey loses a lot of points in my eyes. It could be so much better if they put a bus lane and ran a shuttle bus over to the city centre every 20 mins - if you're there for a big concert it can take well over an hour to get a cab home.......and even longer if you have to get your car out of the car park!
The Waterfront is a great venue with probably the best acoustics in Belfast and holds a deceiving amount of people (saw Razorlight there a few months back and was really impressed) but my favourite still has to be the Ulster Hall for shear nostalgia value (first saw my favourite band - Green Day - there in 1997.......wonder if Artofdookie borrowed his/her name from there?) and the fact that they get over the poor acoustics by cranking the volume up!Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. of course its about the money - touring is where most acts make money, so why would they put out a big spend and make a potential loss to keep fans happy in Ireland/N.Ireland? I know for one if i was under pressure to make big money for somebody id not take that risk would u?0
