Debit Card Refund -Co-Op Bank

Hi

I made an online purchase at the Times website. On checking my bank statement online I found that they had taken the agreed payment of £67, but also another for £134 (having charged my card three times for the purchase). I called the Times on Friday and they apologised, could not offer any firm explanation for how it had happened ( system error) was suggested. And said that they had refunded the £134 to my card immediately but that it would be up to my bank as to how long it took to show up on account.

I bank with the co-operative. Does anyone have any experience of time-scale for debit card refund with them? Is there anything I can do to speed it up all? Could really, really do with having the money back in my account in time for new year, but am guessing that is wishful thinking..

Thanks for any clues or advice you can offer,

:)

I suggest you have a word with the Co-op themselves. They tend to find ways to be helpful in this kind of situation.

Refunds generally take about 3 bank working days.

I doubt the bank will be able to do anything to speed it up.

  • I had a credit card transaction reversed by Coop in November and it took just 24 hours to be back in CC account. With the faster payments system used by most banks now - it should mean inside of 24 hours, but obviously with holidays there may be more of a delay.
  • Yup I am it is right it take 3 days of working.

Card reversals don't operate via Faster Payments.
  • I used to bank with the Co-op. Just about the only thing they were ny good at was understanding this problem. Call them up, explain, and they should cancel the transactions.

Bad advice in this case, The Times have already agreed to refund the money so if the original transaction is cancelled (which is probably not possible at this point anyway) the OP would end up with an extra £134 in their account, which The Times would then want to recover.
  • thanks for all the replies, spoke to Co-Op and they said because it was sent Friday using fasterpayments it should be in withint 24 hours of them sending it (fri afternoon). Fingers crossed, otherwise it shall be a long walk to work tmo! thanks for all the replies - happy new year! :T

Under PSD (payment services dirctive) co-op will have to refund it staright away, ensure no charges or if it is a acc which pays interest is corrected.

It is then upto them to monitor and redebit once the refund comes through.
