Direct Debit Protection / Creditor

Yeah go down the creditor route first as normally the name would not impact the collection of a DD.
So you're telling me that if I was JOE A BLOGGS, and a company set up a direct debit as JOE B OTHER that the bank systems would simply ignore the incorrect spelling, surely that isn't right?PPI Claim settled with WFSL in Dec 2012.

Erm yeah kind of I've got a DD set up on my account for something that is in my brothers name :-)
Same as my phone bill it's set up in the name of A JONES but my name on my account is A JONES-SMITH as my surname is really double barrelled.
I don't think the name has any relevance unless someone can tell me different.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
So far as I know - name has no relevance per say. More important is sort code and account name of debitor and if applicable the roll number or their reference being quoted as it is that - that will get the debit to the right account.0

if you have paid off by other means, this most certainly proves it is authorised.
Ultimately, its the companies fault so your bank shouldn't get involved.
.
Nice chargeback for paid via other means here. :T
Best advice talk to the co before you do anything with the bank. As the last thing you need to do is upset them.
But if they won't playball.
Remember you bank is there to HELP YOU when retaillers mess up...
You have 2 options get the DD returned on the basis that the details are wrong (would be quickest) Would be straight back in account.
or
Debit card dispute for paid via other means. Slower refund, will take a few days.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
So an update - I phoned the creditor, they weren't interested, so I sent them a letter via recorded post, it was signed for but again, nothing in response, and yes I know it's only 12 days since it occurred.
Do I risk going to the bank at this stage and saying it was an unauthorised payment as the creditor assured me that I had to make a manual payment over the phone as the direct debit wasn't established.

The Direct debit would have been set up electronically using AUDDIS - sort code and account number only.
The bank would not have refused it for a wrong spelling of your name.
If they have already taken a payment this month using the debit card, the bank can see this and you have a valid reason for getting a refund under the indemnity scheme (Duplicated payment).
You may also want to contact your bank's card services to cancel any future payments on the debit card.0
