We don't have a dishwasher as there are only two of us and I don't see the point as it only takes 5-10 mins to wash up by hand. :)

I do however use our tumble dryer every other day because we have a lot of pets and the dryer is good for getting out pet hair from clothing.

Where does the pet hair go?

Their emissions per capita are about 2.5 of the UK and actually slightly more than the U.S

The main difference is that there are beggur all Aussies. We could double our emissions and it would barely make a difference. I would imagine that a lot of Aussie emissions are due to the great output of mines and farms, output that doesn't end up being used by Australians. After all it's easier to burn less stuff if you don't make anything!

Coastal Australia gets a lot of rain. Sydney, for example, gets about twice the average rainfall of London but Sydney water is bad at collecting it. Inland gets rather less and indeed there are plenty of places that are dry or were until very recently.

An argument the UK could use, as compared with the US or China there are not many Brits. We could save a fortune by dropping all this "green" agenda.

BIL is high up in a company which builds power plants. His view is that Oz demand for energy is fuelled by things like aircon demand.

I accept absolute people numbers are low, limiting impact.

So what happens when the India middle class grows and demands similar aircon type comforts? The competition for the worlds energy can only increase.

...which is why we need cracking

It will help for a relatively short period what we need is something on the scale of nuclear without the same size risks.

Interesting. I thought the carbon footprint would be high due to small portable beach lager can coolers ?

I haven't known many Canadians but the people from the US I have met who stayed over here have moaned about the size of our wardrobes compared to their closets at home.:D

All the pet hair gets caught in the lint trap so you can throw it away.:)

Looking forward to meeting a couple of rather pious "green" Aussies I know. Their carbon footprint being over double that of the USA per capita is a gem.

I like to explain to them it's because their uk house has been done over to appeal to the socio economic bracket that no longer requires dressing rooms.:D
