Smart TV or TV + Smart Blu ray ?

Hi

We're considering buying a Smart TV but I also know you can get Smart Blu ray players etc.

Does a Smart TV have any advantages over using a Smart Blu ray player ?

I've looked around and I can't find anything that gives a comparison. Any advice ?

They are largely the same. Both my TV and Blu-Ray player have Smart features which rather overlap with each other.
The problem is that it's largely impossible to buy decent TVs and players without these features which seem to be added as standard to everything possible these days.
Soon I expect it'll be like trying to buy a mobile phone without a camera.

No real advantages either way. If you have a particular service you require it's worth investigating the options.

For example, I use Lovefilm. My Sony Blu ray player has the ability to watch Lovefilm, but my Panasonic TV does not. BUT, the TV has netflix whereas the blu ray player doesn't.

Both have BBC iPayer, and neither have ITV player, whereas I think the Samsung range of TV's do..

Well you could buy a Smart TV and then when you want a blu ray player in the future get a smart blu ray player, so you have both options. Otherwise you may regret not buying a smart tv and have a regular one in it's place.

I personally don't mind not having a Smart TV, as long as it has a USB slot and preferably a VGA input! So I can hook up computers and hardrives to it.
