Ill health

Can anyone help me?, As a family we have been lucky and never had to claim benefits, but my hours had been cut right down but my husband who is self employed but works for one employer, has just had a mild stroke at 50, taken him down his left side, he does/ did hard manual work and probably wont be able to get back to that. hes got a imcome protection policy but this is paying out very little, he also has a critial illness policy but this could take months for them to tell us if we can have it, is there anything he can get being self employed ?? thank u for your help.

The decision is not the claimants. Contribution based ESA will be paid if enough class 2 NI contributions were made in the past 2 full tax years before this one. If this is not he case, income based can be claimed if your household income is low enough.
