Dishwasher problem

We put our dishwasher on to wash last night, but when we came down this morning it was still going, well making a noise anyway and showing 39 minutes left on the clock. It's a Bosch dishwasher. The filters are fine, and the rotors could turn okay and weren't obstructed. We did notice a slightly odd smell, maybe electrical burning smell. My thoughts are maybe some sort of motor burnt out.

Has anybody got any thoughts on what might be the problem?

Mr Bosch is due to come out on Friday but charges £65 for the first half hour then something silly like £4 for every 6 minutes after that (i.e. £40/hour) plus the cost of any replacement parts.

The dishwasher is over 6 years old. I was wondering what 'normal' life expectancy is for this sort of applicance with normal use, and if we might be better off looking for a new machine.

I would really apprciate any advice or thoughts from the folk on here.

Cheers
Clive

I would have thought it would have some more life in it yet Bosch are usually
    good machines.
Sounds like maybe pump brushes or something like that.
Thing is tho by the time Mr Bosch has come and fiddled about with it / had a brew / made 2 or 3 mobile phone calls etc etc plus any parts you are well on your way to a new ( and more energy efficient ) machine.
At the end of the day you have got a 6 year old machine repaired
IMHO I would buy a new one.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Just had a look on Which and it looks like Bosch are still rated highly. Was thinking of getting a Bosch SGS46E02GB, not a Which best buy, but sensibly priced and will hopefully serve us well.

Dont get rid of it or get a Bosch repairman, get a decent local independent repairman to talk a look at it. the difference in energy use between a 2007 and 2001 model is going to be more than outweighed in the energy consumed in manufacturing and delivering a new machine!

our Bosch dishwasher (bought 2002) stopped working, it turned out the pump was blocked with a shard of broken crockery. local repairman fixed it for £40 ie one hour labour. it is fine now.

My Hotpoint dishwasher sticks at various points in the programme, I believe the thermostat has gone so the machine doesn't know when to proceed in the cycle. My washer has a manual dial for the programme - just move it on one click and it carries on with the washing
