Advice please - what to do when a prize isn't working

Hello all. I've been lucky enough to win a tablet pc this week but it isn't working. What is the correct thing to do, contact the prize giver or the manufacturer?

I have found the manufacturer very helpful in these situations, as the item will generally be under warranty.

Personally, I'd go back to the company you won it from ... your dealings have been with them and it should be their responsibility to ensure the item you won is working correctly/replacing it if necessary.
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

I've taken the problem to the manufacturer in the past. The prize giver was good enough to give you something for free, so it's ill mannered to pester them if something isn't working when it comes with a warranty for that exact problem.

If magazines/sites have to start dealing with complaints about faults they may decide not to offer any in the first place.

I'd contact the manafacturer first as it should be under warranty - but you may need to contact the the prize giver to prove receipt/purchase of the item.

I think I would contact the prize givers to ask them what to do. I would also creep a little and say that I guess these things happen sometimes and that I don't want to come across as being ungrateful. GL X

i won a htc flyer last christmas and it wasnt working properly, kept switching itself off as soon as it turned on, i contacted htc directly and explained that i had won it and therefore didnt have a receipt, they were fantastic, put a note on to say there would be no receipt for proof of purchase and it was even freepost picked up by ups and delivered back within a week, could not fault them in the slightest

    which brand is it?
did you get any paperwork with the prize that can act as proof of date of winning/purchase?
you could print out an winning email as hopeful proof of the date of winning

i would definitely contact the manufacturer directly and hopefully they will sort it out for you
