AA or VRD for misfuelling a diesel engine?

Hi
Husband put petrol in our diesel car and drove it about 3 miles till it broke down. AA are towing it home and will send someone tomorrow to drain it and fix it with a 'magic solution' (hmm)
This will be £219
VRD say they'll do it for £160
Which would you go for? Anyone used VRD please?

And will this really fix it?

Thanks

Much cheaper than both of those options.

Will it fix it??? Depends if it did any physical damage to the pump or injectors.

    Only time will tell.

Drain the tank and FILL with fresh diesel. Flush the petrol from the lines. Change the fuel filter and cross your fingers.

  • Thanks Jim and Forgot.
As you say - only time will tell - though bless you for thinking someone daft enough to put petrol in a diesel car when we haven't owned a petrol car for 10 years, would know anything about pumps, lines, or indeed, injectors.

    You've made me laugh.
    Thanks again.
  • You might want to relax and stop being so resentful.

This can easily happen to anyone - even those knowledgeable about pumps and lines.

Dont recommend DIY. Fuel has to be disposed of safely. Dangerous job messing with flammable liquid, leave it to the professionals.

People put fuel in their cars everyday and it doesnt explode. Council tips have tanks for liquids. Or a scrap yard. They will run their old machines on the stuff.

Drop a match into a puddle of petrol and the match goes out. Its the vapurs you need to watch.

As long as your not using a flame nearby its safe.

Years of filling lawnmowers and strimmer and radio controlled planes and cars. I have never had anything catch fire that shouldnt.
